Today, I’d like to talk about animal issues in the modern Macbeth. There are two animal slaughter scenes in this film, and it is closely related to the concept of animal rights and what attitude we should have toward our food. First, let’s see the first scene of animal slaughter. In the beginning of this film, Joe Macbeth cut up the pig’s head, and he says something meaningful and interesting and I would talk about it later. In this scene, Joe teaches them cut up the pig’s head, next scene Joe starts to chop the pig’s head into pieces next scene this is Malcolm, and you can see from his facial expression that he feels uncomfortable for it. Later on Malcolm would take over his father Duncan’s restaurant, he totally embrace meat meals, although he was a vegetarian. People tend to hire a hit man to do the slaughter job which gives them enough distance from the emotional discomfort. When I first saw the slaughter scene I also felt uncomfortable with that, if it is the right thing to do, and then why I feel so weird. Next page is the second scene of animal slaughter, in this scene, rally plays with the lobster, however, Joe stop him to do so, for he focus on the respect for the animal we eat. Although Joe is very skilled at killing lobster, we can still see the emotional discomfort on his facial expression. All in all, this two scenes of animal slaughter are all surrounded with the theme respect and no waste. Just like Joe Macbeth says the first rule in the kitchen: respect. See this animal. This animal was noble, highly intelligent, feeling, and died for us. Never forget that. ... (Cuts up the head of a pig)... Ears, cheek, tongue, bone; no waste! That, in a word, is respect.

•How about an animal you're not emotionally attached to?
•Is the thought of slaughtering a cow or chicken or pig with your own hands too much to handle?
•What animal did you eat for your supper last night?
•Did you at least make sure that none went to waste and to take a moment to be grateful for its sacrifice?
